In Iran, a Women football premier league with 18 teams!

TEHRAN TIMES
(May 24,2009)

TEHRAN (Press TV) -- The second season of Iran's women's football league championship games is starting today.

The nationwide games will involve 18 teams and matches will take place at different stadiums, reports ILNA.

The three-time increase over last year's games where only 6 teams competed is a reflection of the almost insatiable appetite of Iranian women for the beautiful game.

Last year's winners, Bal Gostar from the Mazandaran province will be hoping to make it two in a row this year.

Cheney behind Bhutto hit?

TEHRAN TIMES
(May 21, 2009)

TEHRAN (Press TV) — Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh has denied saying that former U.S. vice president Dick Cheney was behind the assassination of Pakistan’s former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Earlier, news reports quoted Hersh as saying that a ‘special death squad’ working under Cheney and headed by General Stanley Mc-Chrystal -- the new commander of the U.S. army in Afghanistan -- had killed Bhutto and former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri.

“Vice president Cheney does not have a death squad. I have no idea who killed Mr. Hariri or Ms. Bhutto. I have never said that I did have such information,” the Pakistani daily Dawn quoted Hersh as saying.

“I most certainly did not say anything remotely to that effect during an interview with an Arab media outlet,” he added.

The award-winning journalist concluded that the reports are “another example of blogs going bonkers with misleading and fabricated stories.”

Israel claims Gaza probe is “intrinsically flawed” because it was ordered by the UN Human Rights Council

Prosecutor: Gaza probe goes on without Israeli OK.

GENEVA (AP) - A UN investigation into possible war crimes in Israel and Gaza will go ahead with or without Israel's cooperation, the chief investigator said.

Israel claims the probe is “intrinsically flawed” because it was ordered by the UN Human Rights Council.

But Richard Goldstone, a veteran prosecutor of war crimes in Rwanda and former Yugoslavia, said he wants his team to bring a balanced approach to the January conflict and was upset that Israel has turned a deaf ear to his appeals for cooperation.

“I'm disappointed, and the members of the mission are disappointed, that we've had no positive response from the Israeli government,” said Goldstone, a Jew with close ties to Israel.

He said the team wanted to start in Israel, visit the southern part of the country and town of Sderot, which was hit repeatedly by Palestinian rockets, and then enter Gaza “through the front door.”
